Schengen Museum
The Schengen Museum, whose main theme is the development of the European Union and, in particular, documentation on the Schengen Agreements, is situated along the Moselle near the centre of the town of Schengen. Although modest in size, the museum impresses with the wealth of information that can be accessed via screens and other display panels.
The building’s design allows visitors to move freely amongst the exhibits on a smooth floor.
The exhibition is complemented by the Marie-Astrid, the boat on which the Schengen Agreements were signed by the various participating member states. (A special section on the Schengen Museum boat can be found in a second report )
Outside the exhibition hall, a shop sells souvenirs and other information material on the subject.
The museum is difficult to access for people with disabilities by bus, given the distance between the bus stop and the museum, and the steep slope of the path leading to it.

Please bear in mind that the distance to the building’s entrance is 90 metres. The route to the entrance follows the pavement alongside the building, then a lifting platform. Although the difference in level is negligible, we regret that the pavement to be used is narrow and the surface is not smooth. |
